Adulting After Dysfunky

Adulting isn’t all bills, housework, and taxes. It’s having relationships you can turn to for fun and support, to make life more meaningful. This wasn’t taught in dysfunctional (or dysfunky) families, where support is in short supply. This is where the true work of adulting comes in for those of us who are adulting after dysfunky.

This is a confidential support group for adult daughters (LGBTQ+ inclusive) of dysfunctional families. Many people wonder if what they experienced was "that bad." Dysfunction is a subjective term. Meaning, it is defined by you.

The following experiences can cause a child to feel highly overwhelmed and helpless and contribute to difficulties throughout the lifespan. Did you experience or witness the following?

  • Substance misuse within the household.

  • Physical or emotional abuse or neglect.

  • Family violence, such as physical, sexual, or emotional violence between parents.

  • Mental illness within the household.

  • Parental separation or divorce.

  • Incarcerated household member.

If you answered yes to any of these situations, this is a group for you.

Together we will:

  • Identify common experiences of and reactions to family dysfunction (in ourselves, in our families, and in others).

  • Make new connections with others who have been there, too.

  • Explore our experience through structured activities such as art and writing.

  • Laugh and cry about our families in a safe and confidential space.

  • Enhance our coping skills and responses to flare ups in family dysfunction and drama.

  • Find new strategies for healing, belonging, and support for immediate use.

My goal is for you to leave equipped with new connections, tools, and knowledge so you can confidently create a happier healthier future (and, I hope, have a little fun along the way).

This group will meet weekly for 1.5 hours for 6 weeks. I am very excited to share this uniquely empowering offering with you. However, space is limited. Please contact me today reserve your spot.
