Therapy for Trauma
The specific types of trauma that women tend to experience impact our sense of self in unique ways. When we are hurt at the hands of someone close to us--as in the case of childhood trauma, for instance--our very sense of self can become distorted. This makes it very difficult to create the lives and relationships we desire. In therapy, we can attend to these "invisible scars" with the help of a clinician who is familiar with this inner terrain. There are things that we can do to get better.

Women and Trauma
As women, we are more likely to develop conditions like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD). At a training I attended on the subject, I learned that simply being a woman is a risk factor. Why is this? Potential reasons include the fact that as women we are more likely to experience relational traumas such as sexual assault and domestic violence. Hormonal impacts and societal stressors are also thought to play a role. Everyone has a right to live free from the effects of trauma. Seeking help from a professional tis a great first step.

How I Help
I hold space for trauma survivors to do the challenging but necessary work of healing from trauma. This can involve looking at our experience, learning about psychological trauma, addressing the unconscious beliefs we hold about ourselves and others, developing self compassion, and coping with triggers. I am familiar with the roller coaster of life after trauma and the painful footprints in leaves across our life and relationships. Together, we can find a steady and compassionate way through that keeps you in the driver's seat. My goal is to help restore what trauma robs from us--your sense of power--so you can get where you want to go from here. I would be happy to assist you on this path. Request an appointment today.
